2018 Tax Roll Open For Public Exposure

The St. Tammany Parish tax roll will be open for public exposure on August 1, 2018. Although the two-week, legal open roll period is Wednesday, August 15, 2018 – Wednesday, August 29, 2018, Assessor Louis Fitzmorris has extended the period by an additional two weeks to allow more time to assist citizens. Fitzmorris is urging all property owners to check the assessed values of their homes and properties by visiting the St. Tammany Parish Assessor’s Office website, stpao.org, calling, or visiting either of the office locations.

Although not a reassessment year, it is important to check in with the assessor’s office to view assessed values, verify mailing addresses, special assessments and exemptions. The public exposure period is important as it allows taxpayers time to ensure all assessment information is accurate before the tax roll is certified and tax bills mailed out. After that time, any needed changes cannot be done within the assessor’s office and must be sent to the Louisiana Tax Commission. Therefore, property owners are strongly encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity now.

If a citizen is in disagreement with their assessment, an Application for Assessment Review may be filed with the St. Tammany Parish Assessor’s Office during the public exposure period. Applications are available at both office locations and on the STPAO website. Applications may be emailed to assessorreview@stpao.org, dropped off or mailed to the STPAO Justice Center location. The deadline to file an Application for Assessment Review is the last day of the public exposure period, August 29, 2018. In order for a review to be processed in a timely manner, the public is asked to file as early in August as possible. Due to the high volume of review applications submitted near the end of the public exposure period, taxpayers who file at that time may experience a delay in review determinations.

After receiving an Assessment Review determination, if a property owner is still in disagreement about their assessed value, an Appeal to Board of Review form may be filed with the St. Tammany Parish Council/Board of Review. The deadline to submit an appeal form is Friday, September 7, 2018. State law requires that an Application for Assessment Review must be filed first with the St. Tammany Parish Assessor’s Office before any Appeal to Board of Review is filed with the parish council. Appeal forms are available on the parish website, www.stpgov.org.
